History
GT
Exhausts (NI) Limited was founded in 1975, by entrepreneur, vehicle mechanic
and vehicle dealer operator; Mr Gilbert Tunney. Having successfully launched
and operated a number of vehicle dealerships across Northern Ireland including
Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu, Hyundai,
Subaru, Isuzu and Ssang Yong, Mr Tunney saw a niche in the vehicle parts
sector and with that came the start of an exhaust manufacturing and distribution
plant at Enniskillen. He purchased his first factory premises, and all
that remained to be done was buy and commission plant and machinery, find
and train staff and of course get customers!
The first machine installed at the factory was a pipe bending machine
at a cost of £65,000!. He then set about finding customers and secured
clients including Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Eire, where GT Exhausts
manufactured Original Equipment Systems for cars such as the Cortina and
Mk II Escort. With the economy and the manufacturing industry in disarray
leading to the folding of these companies during the 1970's, our founder
sought to create its own market force and created and developed a broad
range of systems for the replacement market whilst also securing Original
Equipment customers overseas.
As the vehicle parc, and demand expanded, so too did GT Exhausts. Expansions
at the original factory took place in 1980, 1982, 1985 and 1990, and finally
in 2000, GT Exhausts opened its new purpose built plant on a green belt
site. Whilst these expansions were taking place so too were the launch
of our Fast Fit Centres and Distribution warehouses across, England, Ireland,
Scotland and Wales, which have served our Research & Development Team
with invaluable product knowledge. As well as the replacement sector,
GT Exhausts also manufacture Original Equipment/Genuine parts which are
exported across Europe, USA, Brazil and Japan.
Today GT Exhausts continually re-evaluate it's strategy to meet the demands
of the market place and manufacture a vast range of Exhaust Systems and
Catalytic Converters for Cars, Light Commercial Vehicles, 4x4's, Agricultural
and Lift Truck Vehicles, Generators and related fitting components.
